Fanwood 5K Follow-Up
To All the Runners of the Fanwood 5K and Family Fun Run,
First, I would like to thank you for participating in our race. The Fanwood 5K Race Committee is a group of dedicated volunteers who spend all year preparing for the race. The Committee strives to make the race a top class event for serious runners as well as first-timers. The Race Committee is always trying to improve all aspects of the race from year to year. Although we prepare all year for the race, we unfortunately cannot always control what happens on race day, whether it be the weather or technical issues.
On Sunday we had an issue with the timing company, Compuscore. As you probably know, Compuscore is one of the premier companies in the timing industry and has been for a long time. Compuscore has timed thousands of races of all sizes over the years. Unfortunately, its cables and D-Tag tracking device malfunctioned just before the start of our race. The redundancy procedures of back-up cables also failed. Compuscore had to resort to chute timing, which entails typing in runners’ numbers as they cross the finish line and collecting bib numbers. This is a challenge to do for a race of our size because we attract over 400 runners. This is the exact reason why we spend the extra money and have D-Tag timing. I’m told by the owner of Compuscore that this is the first time such a malfunction has happened.
On behalf of the Fanwood 5K Race Committee and myself, we’d like to apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you. We did the best we could to recover due to this unfortunate incident. Compuscore has spent most of Sunday tightening up the times. Please review your times at Fanwood5K.org and let us know if any additional adjustments need to be made.
Again, as the Race Director, I sincerely apologize for the unfortunate timing incident and hope to see you again next year.
